Cast your minds back a few weeks, and you'll remember us mentioning Baxter & Brooks. Well, on our trip to Graduate Fashion Week we bumped into them again, finished article in hand. We managed to catch up with them and give them a little Q & A to fill in...enjoy!
Q. Hi Baxter & Brooks! How are you today?
Hi there! We're both really well thank you.
Q. So you’ve created the book: Behind The Curtain, which puts the focus on the teams surrounding a designer and how important they are. What inspired you to go down this route? Over the past few years we have become increasingly frustrated with peoples' perception, attitudes and lack of understanding about the fashion industry.
More so now than ever there are documentaries, exhibitions and events in attempt to raise awareness and celebrate British fashion today. We have decided to take this one step further and highlight the creative community that the supports the designer.
Together we aim to celebrate British fashion and highlight the hard work and dedication required to make it in the industry. Hoping to expose the traits often overlooked in the fashion press and glossy editorials, we are embracing all that is good about homegrown fashion talent and most importantly, aim to raise the awareness of the fashion industry as a viable career option to under graduates and creatives alike.
Q. Have you had much interest in the book itself?
We have been very fortunate with such positive feedback on our book and the cause we are supporting. We have been in conversation with Susanna Lau, commissioning editor of Dazed Digital and creator of the amazing blog Style Bubble and she is keen to take it further.
Carolyn Massey has also shown a huge interest in the book. You can only imagine how nervous we were when we first showed her, but to our relief she seemed really pleased and loved it!
Q. You worked with Carolyn Massey on your project, what was it like working with an already established face in the London design scene?
Working with Carolyn was an absolute joy. Her love for menswear was infectious and a true inspiration. Her hardwork and dedication to her subject and her team we both truly admire and we very much hope to collaborate with her on future projects.
Q. Any other collaborations on the horizon…?
We can't say too much but on our wish list you might find Hannah Marshall and Peter Jensen!
Q. So what’s next for Baxter & Brooks?
Currently based in the lovely small town of Epsom we are planning our big move to London! We're both very excited about this and future projects.
Q. Finally, if we wanted to get a copy of ‘Behind The Curtain’ where would we go?

26th July, 2009 - Get this date in your diary now! The1234 Festival returns for its second outing set to entertain over 6,000 people in the heart of East London. You can look forward to seeing the like of Patrick Wolf, Ox Eagle Lion Man, Ipso Facto and super headliners The Rakes. Plus we'll be there taking some shots of you guys in the crowd - so make sure you're looking sharp and don't forget to smile! We managed to sit Matt from headlining band "The Rakes" down for a quick chat, here's the result...
Q. If we’re not mistaken, you guys lived not too far from Shoreditch when forming the band. What’s it like to play a festival such as this so close to your roots?
Great, places like On The Rocks in Shoreditch were the setting for many a raucous Tuesday evening when we started gigging.
Q. The Rakes are constantly intertwined with Fashion, whether it’s fronting an ad campaign for a major fashion house or creating music for use at fashion shows. Is fashion something you’ve always grown up with or has the band pushed you into this direction?
Our alliances with the fashion elite were really an unexpected detour; its fun to dip your toe in that whole world but we wouldn’t want to spend too much time there!

We popped to Earl's Court last night to catch the end of the Graduate Fashion Week, and we managed to catch the awards and the afterparty! Never ones to let a photo opportunity go by, we took a few snaps of some of the most stylish men at the party.
