Describing our latest Controller is no easy task, but he’s all the better for it. Best known as a producer to many, a DJ to even more but also a club promoter, film producer and label boss there’s seemingly no end to Wesley Pentz’ aka Diplo’s talents or ambition. Whether producing Grammy-nominated hits for MIA (Paper Planes), pumping out Zombie dancehall with Switch as Major Lazer or just rocking dancefloors worldwide. Diplo’s influence on modern electronic music is everywhere.
He rose to prominence with the release of his debut LP, ‘Florida’ back in 2004 and was introduced to the then unknown MIA. The two of them recorded the now legendary mixtape, ‘Piracy Funds Terrorism’ and went on to work together on both of MIA’s albums. He’s also produced for Lil Jon, Missy Elliot and Beck as well as remixing countless others.
As well as being a producer and a DJ he also runs the forward thinking Mad Decent label releasing music from all corners of the world including Bonde do Role, Buraka Som Sistema and Boy 8 Bit. As a spin off from the label he also runs the Heaps Decent charity program helping children in Australia and elsewhere in the world. 2009 saw the release of ‘Favela’ documenting the baile funk music from Brasil that he famously championed early in his career, and 2010 will bring his debut TV show. In short, a controller with an incredible depth and variety of knowledge just waiting to be uncovered.
