As the world of festivals grows, so does the destination opportunities. Our resident Knitwear expert Rich Thornton describes his experiences of the latest festival he visited this summer:
From the 4th - 11th July 2012 Tisno in Croatia on the Dalmatian Coast played host to the inimitable 'Garden Festival'. A festival that isn't on everyone's radar just yet but soon will be, if judging by the reviews we have given and heard since we've been back are anything to go by.
The thing that we loved about this Festival and its location is that it catered to whatever you wanted it to cater to; if you wanted to laze the day away on the beach and listen to a few Dj's you could, if you wanted to brave the boat parties during the day to boogie in the sun you could, and if you wanted to rent a boat for the day and do a bit of island hopping you could. Better yet, when we hit a wall during the week we completely reversed our holiday vibe and turned cultured: visiting the National Parks and Krka waterfalls, which were as beautiful as the people there.
The Festival's boat parties most will say are the highlight and I think I agree. Sailing into dock with the Croatian sun setting in the background and the whole boat singing Luther Vandross - 'Never Too Much' arm in arm will stay with me forever. The people, the weather, the scenery, the calibre of DJ's (Crazy P, David August and Nicolas Jaar to name a few) and atmosphere make this festival what it is, and whilst I don't know what the organisers plans are for it long term I would recommend that you get out there quick. This looks like it could grow and grow in the future which may make Croatia the new party capital of Europe.
Croatia and Garden Festival I thank you!
