As we delve further into Topman Towers this week we move into our Creative department. This week we get to know Lewis our Graphic Designer...

Lewis Cartwright, Graphic Designer.
When and how did you get your job?
My work was discovered online on a design website and I got a phone call from the studio manager to see if I was interested and in a job they were recruiting for. I just happend to be looking for a new agency at the same time so came in for a interview two days later.
What's the best part of your job?
I think the best part of my job is being pushed to constantly evolve in the way I design. Topman set trends so I have to adapt my style of design and creative to match whatever is going on in fashion, music and art at the time. Graphic design trends also change as much as fashion trends do. So changing the way i'm designing and what influences me keeps my job fresh and interesting. We have to be forward thinking and push boundaries and as a designer that's something I love doing.
What's your typical day consist of?
I don't really have a typical day as the projects we're working on are so varied. One day I'll be working on a store wall graphic for Japan then the other stage graphics and bottles of water for a festival. I also spend some time searching blogs and sites for design and influences I like.
How would you describe your own style?
Simple and uncomplicated. I don't like anything too fussy or in your face. Simple tailoring looks better to me than sewing on a button or pocket that has no purpose.
Who/what is your main inspiration within fashion?
I like Scandinavian style clothing. It tends to be earthy colours and simple cuts. I have a few shops which I really like going to and they tend to have everything in the style I like.
What's the most embarrasing item of clothing I own?
My most embarrassing item is a pair of reindeer boxers that feature each christmas. With a bad Christmas sweater they can't be beaten!
If you didn't do this job, what else would you like to be doing?
Strange thing was I came into design late. I did my A levels in Marketing and Business related subjects. It was the idea of spending the rest of my life in the city in a suit that put me off so I tried a art foundation and found I was good at it and enjoyed it. And I've never looked back since.
Do you have any advice for anyone that wants to get into the fashion industry?
Listen to people who have done it already and learn. No matter how good you are or think you are you can always learn something new and in the world of fashion you have to be able to embrace new things.
